The office is back, and lunch is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Across corporate campuses and commercial real estate, employers are investing in workplace dining as a reason to come in, stay focused and spend time with colleagues. The catch is that a premium dining program only works when the experience is fast. Nobody wants to spend twenty minutes of a lunch break in line.

That is the problem Orda's new corporate and office dining solution is built to solve. It brings together the tools hospitality operators need to run high-volume workplace cafes, and it is designed around one question: what does the employee experience feel like?

Why workplace dining is a productivity tool

Companies that provide a great lunch program see it show up in attendance, in collaboration and in how people feel about being at the office. Food is one of the few perks employees use every single day. When the cafe is easy to use, people come back. When it is slow or confusing, they order delivery to their desk and the program loses its purpose.

Operators such as corporate caterers and hospitality groups sit in the middle. They need to deliver restaurant quality service to thousands of guests during a compressed lunch window, often across several client sites with different menus, pricing rules and brand standards. Orda gives them a single platform that adapts to each account instead of forcing every site into the same mold.

Built around the employee experience

Here is what the solution includes, and what it means for the people standing in line.

Self-ordering kiosks

Orda Express kiosks let employees browse the menu, customize items and pay on their own. Large category tiles, item photos and clear pricing make ordering intuitive on the first visit. Multiple kiosks run side by side, so throughput scales with the rush instead of with the number of cashiers on shift. Staff can focus on hospitality and food quality rather than ringing up transactions.

Barcode scanning for grab-and-go

Bottled drinks, snacks, packaged salads and retail items are scanned in seconds with the Socket Mobile S320 contactless barcode scanner. An employee picks up a sandwich and a drink, scans both, taps to pay and is on the way back to the desk. Every scannable item still has a button on screen, so nothing is lost if a label is missing.

Integrated scale for by-weight items

Salad bars and hot bars are the heart of many corporate cafes, and they have always been the slowest part of checkout. Orda integrates a Star Micronics scale directly into the kiosk flow. The guest places the container on the scale, the tare is removed automatically, the price is calculated instantly and the item lands in the cart. No cashier, no manual weighing, no guesswork.

Receipt and kitchen printing

Orders print where they need to go. Guests can take a printed receipt for expense reporting, and made-to-order items print to the kitchen so the line keeps moving without anyone calling order numbers across the room.

Subsidy programs

Many employers subsidize meals, either as a fixed daily amount, a percentage or a fully covered program. Orda supports subsidy programs at checkout so the employee sees the right price and the operator gets clean reporting for each client. The perk becomes visible in every transaction, which is exactly where a company wants it.

Loyalty points

Employees earn points on every purchase and redeem rewards at the kiosk or on their phone. Loyalty turns an amenity into a habit, and it gives operators a direct channel to promote new menu items, seasonal specials and events across a building or campus.

NFC identification for fast checkout

Speed is the whole point. With NFC identification, an employee taps a badge or phone to identify themselves at the kiosk, connecting their loyalty account and subsidy eligibility in one motion before paying with a card or mobile wallet. The result is a checkout that takes seconds and feels like the rest of the technology employees use every day.

Proven in New York City workplace dining

Orda's corporate dining solution is already live with Great Performances, a corporate dining and hospitality provider serving organizations including Silverstein Properties and the Rockefeller Foundation. The team replaced a legacy checkout that was hard to configure and frustrating for guests.

Brandon Reichert, Director of Transformation and Technology at Great Performances, put it this way:

Orda Express contributed to the premium hospitality experience we provide through our workplace dining programs. The previous solution was complicated to set up and frustrating for the guests (clients). With Orda Express, we were able to customize the set up based on specific client needs, creating an easy to use, fast, and intuitive experience for our guests.

The deployment is also the foundation of Orda's strategic collaboration with Socket Mobile, which pairs Orda's ordering and self-checkout platform with enterprise-grade barcode scanning for corporate campuses, healthcare facilities, universities and other high-volume foodservice environments.

Less plate waste, without a satisfaction penalty

Pay-by-weight self-service does more than speed up the salad bar. When diners choose the amount they actually want, less excess food reaches the plate. Existing research suggests self-service can reduce plate waste without compromising guest satisfaction. The closest published restaurant comparison measured 69.8 grams of plate waste per diner with fixed-portion table service, 45.8 grams with fixed-price self-service, and 23.9 grams with pay-by-weight self-service, a 65.8 percent reduction. Across workplaces, universities and controlled experiments, structural changes to portioning repeatedly cut waste by 20 to 42 percent.

Orda Research has published an industry evidence review that walks through those studies, compares them to Orda's own modeled benchmark for a kiosk, scanner and scale configuration, and lays out the field trial we recommend for workplace dining. Modeled results are clearly labeled as modeled, and the published human research is used to calibrate them.

For a sustainability team, that turns the cafe into a measurable program. For an operator, it means lower food cost per meal and cleaner data on what guests actually take.

Technology for corporate catering operators

The corporate catering market is evolving quickly. Whether operators are managing corporate lunch catering, office catering, or company lunch catering programs, they need technology that makes the experience faster and easier for both guests and staff. By combining Orda's ordering and self-checkout platform with reliable hardware for scanning, weighing and printing, operators can modernize corporate catering across multiple locations with minimal disruption, while keeping Square as the system of record for payments, reporting and menus.

Everything is customizable by client and by location: branding, menus, pricing, subsidy rules and loyalty terminology. A hospitality operator can win a new account and launch it without rebuilding technology from scratch.

See it in action

Orda will be presenting and demoing the corporate dining solution at SHFM 2026 in Chicago this October. If you would rather not wait, visit the corporate dining page or book a demo and we will walk you through the experience with your own menu.
