Does Square offer online ordering? Yes. Food and beverage sellers can turn on Square's own online ordering from Square Dashboard, with a free ordering page for pickup and delivery and no commission on those orders.
Square calls this an Online Ordering Profile. Below is how to set it up, what it covers, and when a shop adds its own branded app on top.
How to turn on Square online ordering
- Build your menu. In Square Dashboard, create a menu with your items, prices and modifiers, and make sure the items you want to sell are marked available online.
- Open online ordering. Go to Online and then Ordering profile (on some accounts this appears as Channels and then Online ordering).
- Confirm your location and fulfillment. Pickup turns on automatically when your location has an address. Add delivery if you offer it, either with your own drivers or with on-demand couriers.
- Add your branding. Upload your logo and choose your brand color, then set tipping, taxes and any service charges.
- Preview your page. Check that every menu is assigned and that items show the right prices and availability.
- Click Enable ordering. Your ordering page goes live. Share the link on your website, Google profile and social accounts, and print the QR code for your counter.
Only the account owner can set up an ordering profile, and it is available to food and beverage businesses. For the latest steps, see Square's help article Set up an Online Ordering Profile.
What Square online ordering includes, and what it does not
Included
- A branded web ordering page with your logo, color and a shareable link and QR code
- Pickup, your own delivery, and on-demand courier delivery through Square's delivery partners
- Orders that flow straight into Square POS and your kitchen setup
- Gift card and promo code redemption at checkout
- Listing in Cash App's local ordering network, so nearby Cash App users can find you
- Table QR ordering on Square's Plus and Premium plans
Not included
- A native iOS and Android app published in the App Store and Google Play under your own brand. Square's ordering lives on the web; customers can save it as a home-screen shortcut.
- Push notifications you send to customers' phones
- Square Loyalty on the free plan. In the US, loyalty comes with Square Plus and Premium
For many shops, Square's ordering page is a solid first step. It costs nothing to start and keeps everything in one system.
When a shop adds a branded app
Shops with a strong base of regulars, like coffee shops, juice bars and quick-service spots, often add their own app once online orders start to matter. Three things drive the decision.
- Order-ahead that becomes a habit. An app on the home screen, with saved favorites and one-tap reorder, turns the morning coffee run into a two-tap routine. Customers order before they arrive and skip the line.
- Loyalty customers can see. With Square Loyalty inside your app, regulars check their points, unlock rewards and redeem them on their phone. The same points work at the counter.
- Push offers. A push notification reaches customers directly, for free, every time you send one. Announce a new seasonal drink, fill a slow afternoon or remind someone their reward is waiting.
Doing the same with Orda
Orda connects to your Square account and builds your own branded iOS and Android apps plus web ordering from the menu you already have in Square. Your items, prices, modifiers and locations sync automatically, and every order lands in Square POS. Your Square Loyalty program and Square gift cards work in the app, and you can send push offers from the Orda dashboard. Orda handles the App Store and Google Play submission for you, and more than 10,000 Square businesses have used it.
